Cabergoline is a dopamine D2 receptor agonist used primarily for the treatment of hyperprolactinemic disorders, including prolactinomas, and Parkinson’s disease. It is an ergot derivative with a long half-life, allowing for less frequent dosing.
Cabergoline works by inhibiting prolactin secretion from the pituitary gland, normalizing prolactin levels, and reducing tumor size in prolactinomas. It is also used off-label for conditions such as restless legs syndrome and as an adjunct in fertility treatments.
