12,13-DiHOME is a bioactive molecule that acts as a stimulator of Brown Adipose Tissue (BAT) and functions as a thermogenic lipokine, activating BAT in response to cold exposure. It enhances cold tolerance by promoting the translocation of fatty acid transporters FATP1 and CD36 to the cell membrane, thereby increasing BAT fuel uptake.
This compound is used in research related to metabolic disorders. 12,13-DiHOME has been shown to reduce serum triglyceride levels in high-fat diet-induced mice and improve cold defense mechanisms by increasing BAT-specific lipid uptake.
