Teriparatide Acetate – (52232-67-4)

Teriparatide is a synthetic form of the human parathyroid hormone consisting of the first 34 amino acids, which is the biologically active portion of the hormone. It is an effective anabolic agent used in the research of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, men with primary or hypogonadal osteoporosis, and individuals with osteoporosis associated with long-term systemic glucocorticoid therapy.

Teriparatide increases bone mineral density and reduces the risk of fragility fractures, particularly in the spine, by stimulating new bone formation. It is administered via subcutaneous injection and is contraindicated in patients with open epiphyses, metabolic bone diseases, Paget’s disease of bone, bone metastases, a history of skeletal malignancies, or prior radiation therapy involving the skeleton.

The drug’s mechanism of action involves intermittent exposure to PTH, which activates osteoblasts more than osteoclasts, leading to a net effect of stimulating new bone formation.
