Methylphenylpiracetam is a derivative of piracetam and a positive allosteric modulator of the sigma-1 receptor. It differs from phenylpiracetam by the addition of a methyl group. The (4R,5S) stereoisomer, known as E1R, is the most active form, showing significant cognition-enhancing effects without affecting locomotor activity. E1R has demonstrated efficacy in alleviating scopolamine-induced cognitive impairment in mice and enhancing memory retention.
