GHRP-6 (Growth Hormone-Releasing Peptide-6) is a synthetic hexapeptide that acts as a growth hormone secretagogue. It stimulates the release of growth hormone (GH) by activating the ghrelin receptor (GHSR), also known as the growth hormone secretagogue receptor.
Unlike growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH), GHRP-6 does not share sequence homology and functions through a distinct receptor pathway. It is a potent GH stimulator without opioid activity.
GHRP-6 has been shown to increase GH secretion in a dose-dependent manner, with effects mediated through the phosphatidylinositol (PI) turnover pathway, involving protein kinase C (PKC) and calcium mobilization.
It also acts as a negative allosteric modulator of ghrelin signaling. GHRP-6 is used in research to study GH release mechanisms and has potential applications in metabolic and growth-related studies.
