Glufimet – (651321-95-8)

Glufimet, also known as dimethyl 3-phenylglutamate hydrochloride, is a derivative of glutamic acid developed in Russia. It is related to the GABA derivative phenibut and contains phenibut and glycine fragments in its chemical structure.

Glufimet is described as a GABA precursor and modulates the GABA and nitric oxide (NO) systems, exhibiting antioxidant activity. It has shown stress-protective effects in animal studies and may involve metabotropic glutamate receptors in its mechanism of action.

Glufimet has been studied for its cardioprotective effects, improving mitochondrial respiration, reducing lipid peroxidation, and enhancing antioxidant enzyme activity in the heart under conditions of chronic alcohol intoxication. It is considered a potential therapeutic agent for alcohol-induced myocardial injury.
